Our home includes our live-in testers: Donny the white Persian (CFA name "The Mischevous Mr. Bigglesworth), Phoebe the cream/cameo Persian (CFA name "Sugar and Spice Girl"), and her twin brother Rudy, the blue Himalayan/Persian (CFA name "Little Boy Blue"). Despite their different  appearances, they were twin litter mates of Donny's half sister, Olivia.

Donny is the oldest and most mellow- his main activity is finding the best place to nap and is not bothered by noise since he is deaf.  But he is always ready to play if you wake him up! Catnip makes him melt. He has quite the snore due to his tiny nose, hence his nick name "Mr.Snort". He loves to squash himself in baskets 1/2 his size.  He is quite the big lover puss, and has separation anxiety when he thinks he is alone.

Phoebe is the tigress of the family. She is a tiny little petite PRINCESS. She DEMANDS to be played with anytime she sees someone sit down, and loves to carry her toys around in her mouth and meow. When not demanding to be played with, she loves to knead and sleep in her fleece "Princess Bed"- in fact she would love to try out any new bed being made/ created by her staff. She is a picky pot and only eats Fancy Feast in 2 flavors. 

Rudy is a CATNIP ADDICT and sniffs out any new toy and is the main toy tester. He loves to play by himself and when he hears a camera photogging a new mouse or toy, "he is right there to help"!  When he isn't sniffing out toys, he loves laying on his catnip purr pads and watching TV. He is quite the lovey, and takes down anything in his path with his abundant happy tail that he swishes around. 

As cute as they are, Persians Cats as a breed are very prone to PKD, Poly Cystic Disease, and care should be taken by breeders to eradicate this genetic disease.  When Donny was born, genetic tests didn't exist to exclude positive cats from being bred.  Donny had a sister, a VERY BEAUTIFUL white, blue eyed PRINCESS named Marie (CFA  name "Princess Thumbelina Marie").At the age of 6, she began losing weight, and it was determined that she was in end stage renal/ kidney failure, with almost no kidney tissues left. She died despite diligent treatment, 2 months later.  She was the most adorable, sweet, timid, lovey dovey cat EVER.  We shall forever miss her.

If you own a Persian, there is an easy genetic test using a swab from the mouth, to detect the DNA of your cat to determine if they have the PKD gene.  Donny, Rudy  and Phoebe were all tested and they were negative.  If you are looking for a Persian Cat, it is imperative that you question the breeder regarding their DNA postive/ negative status. This disease can be eradicated from the Persian/ Himalayan  Breed quickly if breeders are reputable. For more info go here: University of California, Davis
